About the name Call Marin Home

We would like to express our gratitude to the 2023 Class of the San Rafael Leadership Institute for coining the name “Call Marin Home.” The name Call Marin Home was the title of the 2023 Class Project of the San Rafael Leadership Institute, which was funded in significant part by the Marin Leadership Foundation (MLF), a California public benefit corporation. The Class Project involved extensive research and public outreach, resulting in a thought-provoking video entitled Call Marin Home. The video illustrated, in personal terms, how the housing shortage in Marin County negatively impacts the local workforce as well as the communities they serve. With the support of MLF, the video has been used as an educational tool to draw attention to the need for more housing in Marin County. The Class Project’s name, Call Marin Home, was intended to personalize the lack of affordable housing in Marin County.
Two class members, Aaron Burnett of Canal Alliance and Gina Guillemette of Community Action Marin were active in efforts to create a housing coalition in Marin – both through the Canal Working Group which formed during Covid and the Housing For All Marin Coalition which focused on a potential bond measure and Prop 5 in the 2024 election. The Call Marin Home video was shared among the many organizations that believe in a Marin Housing Coalition. As our coalition formed, we returned repeatedly to the video and its title “Call Marin Home” as aspiration for what we are trying to achieve. We believe that anyone who works in Marin should have the opportunity to live in Marin. Thank you to the San Rafael Class of 2023.
