Housing Needs for Seniors

Older adults need affordable, accessible housing.

Marin’s population is aging fast. An age-friendly Marin requires more accessible housing.

Stabilizing housing for older adults is the best way to spare them the pain, suffering, humiliation, and indignity of becoming homeless. Affordable, accessible, well-located housing is not a luxury for seniors— it is the foundation of health, independence, and community.

This demographic shift is colliding with a longstanding structural challenge: an insufficient supply of affordable, accessible housing. Most of Marin housing is single-family homes, built long before accessibility standards existed. Like deferred maintenance on critical infrastructure, this shortfall poses serious risks to the health, stability, and well-being of Marin’s aging residents.
