The MEHC Legacy

Call Marin Home was born out of the Marin Environmental Housing Collaborative, affectionately know as MEHC. MEHC was originally launched in 2006, following an initial gathering of about two dozen housing- and environmental-community leaders in late 2004. The group was formed explicitly to bridge what had been persistent divides between environmental/conservation interests and affordable-housing interests.

The Organization operated for 18 years as a board-driven organization. The group tracked local government meeting agendas, offer edtalking points, mobilize public comment, provide education (via newsletter “Perspective” and other programs), and endorse or support specific housing projects in Marin County. It was MEHC’s mission is to build public support for projects and policies that create and sustain affordable housing, through lenses of environmental integrity and racial justice.

MEHC’s work during this time was largely conducted by it’s all-volunteer board, supported by a part-time staff member. We are proud of what we accomplished as MEHC, and excited for our next chapter.
